Liverpool manager Arne Slot was pleased with his team’s overall performance despite a second-half performance.
The Reds beat Southampton 2-1 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night, sending Liverpool into the semi-finals.
“It was not easy to play because of the wind on the pitch, but it was good and important to win,” the Dutchman told BBC Sport after the game, who was not on the bench for the match due to suspension.
“We saw a lot of players who might not be playing, we saw a lot of players who had a good impact. For us, it’s important to give these players a chance to play.
“It doesn’t matter who the defenders are if they have the ball like we did in the first half, they dominate the game, but in the second half they don’t dominate the game like they use to, so the defence gets breach, especially because they’re not (professional) defenders.
“We responded well, only gave away one or two chances. The second half wasn’t as good as the first, but it was good enough to win.”
It sees Slot’s men reach a ทางเข้า ufabet record 20th League Cup semi-final. With the holders firmly in contention to retain the final trophy won during the Jurgen Klopp era.
It could yet become the maiden piece of silverware of Slot’s tenure. Although The Reds are likely to face tougher tests of their credentials than they did against a Saints side bereft of confidence and belief.
There was some late fight from the home side, but in truth, it looks rather bleak for Southampton with a tall order awaiting whoever takes the helm in the days or weeks ahead.
